Resist at BritDoc festival

Resist at BritDoc festival

Resist will be pitching at the BritDoc festival this summer.
To create real impact, issue-driven documentaries need partners to help them get made, find audiences and inspire and enable participation.
The Good Pitch is a unique opportunity for us to pitch our social purpose documentary and strategic outreach campaign to a panel of international funders and partners including foundations, NGOs, campaigners, advertising agencies and media.

Some thoughts by the director of the film

WHEN I BEGAN THINKING ABOUT THIS FILM, I WAS REALLY SETTING OUT TO SOLVE SOMETHING THAT WAS A BIT OF A MYSTERY TO ME.
IN A WORLD THAT IS CLEARLY IN A STATE, WHAT REAL POWER DOES ONE PERSON ACTUALLY HAVE TO BE ABLE TO DO ANYTHING ABOUT IT?
WHILST WE THINK OF OURSELVES HERE AS FREE AND PROGRESSIVE, OUR POLITICAL POWER HAS REALLY BEEN RELEGATED TO THE CHOICES WE MAKE AS CONSUMERS.
I ALSO ASKED MYSELF, KNOWING THAT THE WORLD IS IN SUCH A STATE, WHY IS IT THAT WE’RE NOT REALLY VERY ANGRY WITH THE PEOPLE WHO CAUSE THE MESS?

THE ANSWER IS DEPRESSINGLY SIMPLE.
IT’S MAINLY US, OR ‘THE SYSTEM’ THAT WE LIVE UNDER, THAT IS RESPONSIBLE…

What is 'systemic change'?

What is 'systemic change'?

We joined a discussion hosted by the Skoll Foundation’s ‘social change program’ on social entrepreneurs and systemic change.

Meeting Jay Griffiths

Meeting Jay Griffiths

‘Something there is in me, in so many of us, that detests a wall. Or a fence, reservation or golf course. That detests the tepid world of net curtains and the dulled televisual torpor of mediated living, screened experience in two senses, both life via screens and life itself screened out’.
We met with the author Jay Griffiths who left London to write a book over 7 years called ‘Wild’. She journeyed through all different types of landscapes learning to see the world from various indigenous perspectives, rediscovering life beyond consumer culture.

Meeting Mike Davis

Meeting Mike Davis

Mike Davis is urban theorist, political activist and author of a powerful book called ‘Planet of Slums’.
Never before has a generation had laid on it the kind of responsibilities we have now with massive and simultaneous social, demographic and environmental problems.
We met to discuss whether wars of the future will be between the resistance movements of the slums where most of the world will live, and the minority rich protected in ‘off worlds’.
